Pretty Little Liars star Lucy Hale always wanted to be a singer, but she knows she made a wise choice by branching into acting.
"I feel like the music business is much more cutthroat," the 21-year-old native of Tennessee told QMI Agency. "I have a lot of friends who are aspiring musicians, and people who already have made it, and just hearing their stories, it's a completely different world, for sure.
"I grew up singing and performing. That always was my passion. Singing led to acting, I don't know how. It just got mentioned through the grapevine, like, 'Would you start auditioning?' So I did and I sort of fell in love with it."
Pretty Little Liars - which also stars Troian Bellisario, Ashley Benson and Canadian Shay Mitchell - airs Mondays on MuchMusic. The cast will visit the MuchMusic studios in Toronto on Thursday, Jan. 27, appearing on New.Music.Live.
Asked to explain the big success of Pretty Little Liars in both the United States and Canada, Hale said, "Everyone loves a show that crosses the line a little bit. And there's the scandal element. Four girls who are a little naughty? I think we have that working for us, too."
