Fast National ratings for Thursday, Jan. 6, 2011
CBS took its usual spot at the top of the total-viewer rankings on Thursday, but the wintertime debut of "Wipeout" on ABC gave that network its best 8 o'clock numbers of the season -- by a huge margin -- and helped pave the way for a demographic win.
CBS and ABC were pretty much the only games in town ratings-wise Thursday night as the other broadcast nets are a couple weeks away from debuting their midseason schedules. The Eye led the night with 13.8 million viewers and an 8.3 rating/14 share among households. ABC (10.3 million, 6.1/10) was a solid second. There was a huge drop from there to third-place FOX (4 million, 2.6/4). NBC (3 million, 1.9/3) came in fourth, and The CW trailed with 1.4 million viewers and a 0.9/1.
"Wipeout's" strong debut (3.7 rating among adults 18-49) helped ABC lead the night in the demographic; it averaged 3.6 for the evening. CBS was close behind at 3.4. FOX and NBC tied for third at 1.2, while The CW delivered a 0.5.
