Crystal Bowersox thought she was only visiting the Grand Ole Opry Friday night, hanging backstage to listen to the Oak Ridge Boys, Bo Bice and Vince Gill perform but she got the surprise of her life when instead of just visiting the Opry, she made her Grand Ole Opry debut.
Before the Oak Ridge Boys performed, Opry announcer Mike Terry introduced Crystal who waved to the audience from the side of the stage. After the Oak Ridge Boys performance, which also featured Bo, Vince Gill — serving as the segment's host — invited Crystal onstage.
"We do things out here for an awful lot of different reasons, but one is spontaneity, one is fun," Vince said. "I went to the management and said, 'Why don't we do the Southern gentlemanly thing and invite her to sing a song on the stage of the Grand Ole Opry?'"
Crystal stepped out onto the stage, accepted Vince's guitar, then took a slow, measured step into the legendary circle of wood from the Ryman at center stage. "I'm standing in the circle!" Crystal exclaimed before she performed her song "Mine All Mine," a song she wrote for her husband. Between verses of the song, she looked up into the balcony of the Opry and said ""I can't believe where I am!"
