Now that spring is upon us and Canadians are poking their noses out of their hibernation lairs, home-owners are asking themselves a question:
Is this the year I kill myself trying to build a deck? Or should I do the safe thing and hire a professional?
Now, some decks require the pruning of a money tree, let's be honest. But Canadians in particular sure seem to be deck-obsessed nonetheless.
With that in mind, HGTV brings us the new series Decked Out, which debuts April 7.
Decked Out is hosted by builder Paul Lafrance, whose crew specializes in transforming drab backyards into just about anything your mind can dream up.
Lafrance's concept is that even basic backyards can become quasi-retreats, especially as the economic times have made cottages and weekend travel economically impractical for the majority.
Each episode of Decked Out follows a backyard makeover, from concept to completion. And even if Lafrance and his team are building something you couldn't possibly afford, the process still can give you ideas as to what you can do with both limited budgets and limited spaces.
After all, there's nothing like drinking beer on a deck. You know, now that we think of it, maybe it's the beer that Canadians love. Oh well, different paths to the same point.
