The long-in-development FX series based on the comic book "Powers" has finally gotten a green light.
Brian Michael Bendis, who wrote the award-winning graphic novel (Michael Avon Oeming was its artist), tweeted over the weekend that the show, which initially went into development two years ago, had been ordered to pilot: "it's official!" he wrote. "[Y]our window of reading Powers while it was still cool is running out."
Bendis' tweet was followed by one from ex-"Battlestar Galactica" star Katee Sackhoff, who said she took a meeting about playing one of the two lead characters, Deena Pilgrim, last year and has just been "waiting for a green light to go after it."
"Powers" is about a pair of homicide detectives who work in a world where superheroes are part of everyday life. Deena is a feisty young detective who's partnered with Christian Walker, a veteran cop who used to be a "power" himself before losing his abilities.
We very much like the idea of Sackhoff as Deena, and we hope she, writer-exec producer Charles Eglee ("The Walking Dead") and FX can make that happen. But who should play Walker?
If he didn't already have a job on "Chuck," we'd suggest Adam Baldwin for the physically imposing and world-weary character. Patrick Warburton, "The Mentalist's" Owain Yeoman and Sackhoff's former "BSG" co-star Tahmoh Penikett have also been mentioned on fan boards. Penikett is the only one currently not attached to another show, for what that's worth.
We could also see (again, irrespective of commitments to other projects) the likes of Brian Austin Green, "Being Human's" Sam Witwer or "True Blood's" Joe Manganiello taking on the part.
Who would you cast in the two roles?
