Ricky Gervais has said that "When the Whistle Blows," the show-within-a-show on his series "Extras," is basically the nightmare scenario of what the original version of "The Office" could have become. So he might not find the video below especially funny.
We, however, think it's pretty great: A YouTube user has re-imagined the opening of the show as an old-school, TGIF-era sitcom. The saxophone blast at the very beginning of the clip is from "Roseanne," and the theme song is "Family Matters." The actual "Office" scene is the cold open from the Season 5 episode "Moroccan Christmas."
Re-cutting "The Office" as a classic sitcom has been done before, but this particular video has gone viral: As of this post, it had more than 140,000 views. We're glad the show is the way it is -- and that NBC's version didn't turn out more like this in the first place -- but this is just fun stuff.
