Former Law & Order: Special Victims Unit star Christopher Meloni is in talks for a role in the new Superman film, Man of Steel, Deadline.com reports.
Meloni, who left the long-running NBC procedural after contract negotiations stalled earlier this year, will reportedly join the film in a major role that has not yet been identified.
Should Meloni sign on, he'll be joining Henry Cavill (in the title role), Amy Adams, Kevin Costner, Diane Lane and Michael Shannon. Both Russell Crowe and Julia Ormond are in talks to play Superman's Kryptonian parents.
Meloni's void on Law & Order has yet to be filled, though David Conrad (Ghost Whisperer), Kevin Alejandro (True Blood, Southland), Michael Raymond-James (Terriers), Danny Pino (Cold Case) and Rhys Coiro (Entourage) have reportedly tested for the role.
Production on Man of Steel, which will be directed by Zack Snyder (300, Watchmen), is scheduled to begin next month.
