The fashion guru Tim Gunn and the model Heidi Klum made a not quite triumphant but still satisfactory return to New York City as "Project Runway" had its Season 9 premiere on Lifetime on Thursday night. The fashion designer competition averaged 2.7 million total viewers according to Nielsen, making small gains over the premiere from last season. It was certainly an eventful episode, as four of the twenty contestants were eliminated by the 20-minute mark.
CBS won the night handily among the broadcast networks in total viewers and among the advertiser-coveted 18 to 49-year-old demographic with a repeat of its popular nerdy comedy "Big Bang Theory" and an eviction episode of "Big Brother." Both programs hovered right around the 7 million mark in total viewers. Now in its can-that-really-be-true 13th season, "Big Brother" has remained a reliable summer performer for CBS, with a slight uptick in the 18 to 49 demo and in total viewers when compared to the same period last year.
