Remember Russell Brand's year as host of the VMAs? That was 2008. How about Chelsea Handler, who did the duties last year? The host of the show usually winds up making headlines.
But it won't happen this year. According to a Billboard interview with Amy Doyle, MTV executive VP for Music and Talent, and executive producer of the awards show, finding the right host is a tough task.
"Hosting is such a unique element. We feel we got it right by putting new talent on the stage like Chelsea (Handler) and Russell (Brand). We're really challenging ourselves to find the right person so that the show feels complete.[Editor's Note: Since this interview took place, MTV decided to go with no host.]"
Instead, they're hoping to create "moments," such as last year's Lady Gaga's meat dress. On Sunday, Gaga is slated to open the show. Beyonce has just been added as a performer and Will Ferrell, Jack Black and Zoe Saldana have been added as presenters.
