A veritable Lost and Found awaits fans of the late ABC hit, with an auction of props Saturday and Sunday (profilesinhistory.com). Among thousands of items, USA TODAY and Joe Maddalena of Profiles in History detail some featured pieces (bid estimates and descriptive details from the catalog).
Swan hatch door
Estimated starting bid: $1,000
Say hello to island disaster. The door blew off the Swan Station after Locke and Desmond (Henry Ian Cusick) decided to stop entering those fateful numbers — 4, 8, 15, 16, 23 and 42 — into a computer terminal, causing a system failure and explosion. This version of the door is made of rigid polyfoam painted to resemble steel. "It's one of the most iconic pieces of the show. The hatch kind of set the tone for the numbers ... and learning about The Others and Dharma," Maddalena says.
Kate's toy plane
Estimated starting bid: $600
The totemic toy Douglas DC-3 propeller aircraft, which is about 5 inches long, belonged to Tom, Kate's (Evangeline Lilly) childhood sweetheart. The two buried the plane in a time capsule, before digging it up as they waited for Kate to meet her dying mother. The plane was first seen in "Whatever the Case May Be," and it reappeared in three other episodes. Two toy airplanes are part of this lot. "This is one of my favorite things. If you like Kate, (this) is so cool," says Maddalena.
Mr. Cluck
Estimated starting bid: $300
The Styrofoam chicken head, about 34 by 40 inches, is the logo of Mr. Cluck's Chicken Shack, where Hurley (Jorge Garcia) worked when he won his Mega Lotto Jackpot. He was fired before he told the others about his winnings, but he returned later to buy the franchise. When a local reporter arrived to do a story on Hurley and the franchise, a meteorite hit the restaurant, further evidence for Hurley of the curse of the numbers. "You can't be a Lost fan without getting a Mr. Cluck's chicken head," Maddalena says.
Locke's knife set
Estimated starting bid: $2,000
Locke (Terry O'Quinn) took his knife set on his trip to Australia, planning to take them on a walkabout in the Outback. But the organizers refused to let him join the trip because he was wheelchair-bound — at least, until he reached the miraculous island. There he kept the Master Bowie as his primary knife. Also in the aluminum Rimowa Tropicana Trolley case: a first-aid kit, maps, MREs and a survival guide.
Charlie's guitar
Estimated starting bid: $400
Can you hear the strains of the Drive Shaft hit You All Everybody? This acoustic guitar is one of several available versions of Charlie's (Dominic Monaghan) guitar. "You see it in the flashback when he's back in London on the street corner, playing songs. There's a case ... people are putting money in," Maddalena says. Included: the guitar case, festooned with band stickers.
Dharma beer cans
Estimated starting bid: $300
After a hot day romping in the sand, nothing quenches an island thirst like a Dharma. The 32 cans, some crushed, were among the provisions for members of the experimental Dharma Initiative. Hurley and Jin (Daniel Dae Kim) were the first Oceanic crash survivors to find the cans, which come with Swan Station or generic Dharma logos.
Sawyer's Dharma jumpsuit
Estimated starting bid: $200
A remembrance of Sawyer's (Josh Holloway) happier times, even though he was trapped in the past. This was his uniform when he took the name "LaFleur" and became the Dharma head of security. It was featured in the episode "LaFleur," which chronicled his life with Juliet after the island's time shift deposited him in Dharmaville in the 1970s. "The most popular costume by far is LaFleur. Everybody loves Sawyer," Maddalena says.
Hurley's winning lottery ticket
Estimated starting bid: $600
Oh, those accursed numbers. Hurley won $114 million by picking the famed six digits, but he believed they were a curse, not a sign of good fortune. The digits turned up nearly everywhere, from the Swan Station hatch and computer to the roofs of Ana-Lucia's L.A. police cruisers.
