MTV was very proud of itself for coming up with the idea of dropping "Jersey Shore" star Nicole "Snooki" Polizzi in a glass ball on New Year's Eve. Problem is the network reportedly didn't ask New York City if that were okay.
According to Popeater's sources, New York officials have put the kibosh on MTV's plans to lower Snooki encased in a glass ball in Times Square on Jan. 1.
"No way would they allow this to take place," an inside source tells the site. "MTV rents a position in the Square that night like every other media outlet. You can't get access to the Square without an official credential. You have to play by the official rules or you get kicked out, which is exactly what has happened to MTV and Snooki."
MTV is reportedly scrambling to figure out how and where they can still pull it off. It just won't be in the famous Square where Mayor Bloomberg and Dick Clark will be administering the official ball drop that has gone down since 1907.
While this is the first time MTV has planned such a thing, we're pretty sure Snooki will be fine. It can't be her first ball drop in Times Square. Just sayin'.
