"The Situation" won't be flexing his famous abs near the Plaza Hotel any time soon, say insiders.
"Jersey Shore" star Mike Sorrentino has been barred from getting involved in a deal to reopen the high-end gym at the Fifth Avenue landmark by the hotel's bosses, who don't think the star is right for its well-heeled clientele.
We reported that The Sitch had been in talks to become a partner and the face of a luxury gym at the Plaza and offer personal ab workouts to its patrons in the space that used to be the Radu Fitness center.
But now a rep for the hotel, recently scandalized by Charlie Sheen's infamous room-trashing incident, sternly says, "The Plaza is not working with The Situation on any projects, including the gym space."
Sorrentino met with Ross Franklin, CEO of RF Health Club Consulting, who is expected to take over the lease to start a high-end gym within the next few weeks.
A source told us, "Franklin wants to start the most exclusive fitness club in the US and did meet in October with The Situation about getting him on board. But Plaza bosses didn't think The Situation would be the right fit for the gym's exclusive brand, the hotel or their clients. They asked him to proceed without Sorrentino."
The Radu Fitness Center, which closed in September, was a favorite with celebs, including Bianca Jagger, Candice Bergen and Cindy Crawford.
A rep for Sorrentino said: "Mike had only one meeting with the owners of the gym property a couple of months ago to see if this is something he would be interested in. Mike decided that this was not the right location for a potential gym that he would be involved in. He has currently been entertaining offers from several other properties." The collapse of the deal won't likely cost the MTV star much sleep. He is projected to earn $5 million in the next year and already has his own fitness DVD, health supplements, a vodka brand and a new book and TV deal. Franklin didn't get back to us, and his rep declined to comment.
