Anyone who ever has been to a yard sale or a flea market knows that one person's junk is another person's treasure.
How to turn that subjectivity into a profit-generating exercise is at the heart of Canadian Pickers, a new reality series that debuts Tuesday, April 12 on History Television.
Canadian Pickers follows real-life "pickers" Sheldon Smithens and Scott Cozens as they uncover hidden gems in people's basements, attics and barns. The first episode has the duo grazing through southern Alberta, trying to ascertain the value of everything from vintage radios to a totem pole of questionable origin.
The 13-part series - which was inspired by the successful U.S. series American Pickers - will see Smithens and Cozens travel from coast to coast in Canada.
These types of series tend to be very rural-based, though, and while that undoubtedly is interesting, we hope Smithens and Cozens don't forget about urban areas. There has to be fascinating stuff in the attics of homes in downtown Toronto and Vancouver and Calgary and Edmonton and Winnipeg and Ottawa, don't you think?
