It's not exactly curtains for The Closer next year, as fans of the show already know. After the TNT cop drama starring Kyra Sedgwick wraps up its final season in 2012, it will be followed by a new series: Major Crimes, featuring Mary McDonnell and set in the Los Angeles Police Department.
Given The Closer's impressive ratings, you'd think executive producer James Duff might be a little upset that the show was closing up shop. Not quite. Duff says he's pleased to end the series on his terms.
"Kyra gave me an amazing opportunity. She gave me the opportunity to write the end of the show the way I wanted to do it. She didn't wait until we were over, until the audience tuned out. I get to end it the way I intended," says Duff.
Sedgwick, who's been bi-coastal since the The Closer first started airing in 2005, will move back to New York and her husband, Kevin Bacon.
So, what else can he reveal about his new series? He's as tight-lipped as Brenda Johnson is chatty. "I have not been told I can speak about it. As the curtain comes down on The Closer, I'm supposed to be setting the stage for Major Crimes," he says.
