The Emmys started with a "Glee"-flavored opening number. No surprise there. But the execution? Well, that was a pretty great surprise.
Host Jimmy Fallon led several members of the "Glee" cast -- along with Betty White, Jon Hamm, Tina Fey, Nina Dobrev, Joel McHale, Jorge Garcia and Kate Gosselin -- in a surprisingly credible rendition of Bruce Springsteen's "Born to Run." OK, not Kate Gosselin, although she at least was willing to be the punchline to a joke about her less-than-stellar "Dancing With the Stars" run.
Even Jane Lynch joined in on the fun -- after tossing Slushies in Fallon and Fey's faces. And the image of Betty White telling Jon Hamm to back his moneymaker up? Well, that's not one we'll get out of our heads anytime soon. And we have to say, Jimmy Fallon does a very good Springsteen impression -- and he caught his breath really quickly when he had to transition into host mode. Well done.
(And by the way, we're kind of hoping that this portends a Bruce-themed episode of "Glee" after the Super Bowl. Just sayin'.)
We'll post video of the routine as soon as it's available. Meanwhile, tell you us what you think of the opening number in the comments.
