{alltv} 'America's Next Top Model': 6 questions for Kendal, who got shafted by Vera Wang

Yes, we said it: Alabama's Kendal Brown got shafted in the last photo challenge of "America's Next Top Model." While all the other girls had designers with distinct character traits, Kendal got stuck with nice, classy, but dare we say, boring Vera Wang.

Not only that, but in the earlier Grammy challenge, Mr. Jay Manuel accused her of sabotaging her teammate, Chris, with what he thought was a dress more appropriate for the streets than the Grammys. Um, Mr. Jay, you have met Chris, right?

We gave Kendal 6 chances to clear her name:

1.) You weren't quite on our radar to go, but it seemed you felt it coming. Why?

At the photo shoot that I got eliminated from, I sort of knew. Mr. Jay was giving me a lot of bad feedback on a majority of my photo shoot. So, I thought I sort of knew I was going to go home, but I thought I was progressing enough to stay on in the competition. In the previous week, I was called third in the Patrick Demarchelier shoot. So, I thought I was progressing a little bit. I was shocked. I thought they'd at least give me one more try.

2.) The judges kept saying they didn't think you were passionate about modeling. Is that how you felt?

It was Mr. Jay's critiques during shoots that would bring my energy down. It wasn't because I wasn't passionate. That wasn't the case at all. It's because I got discouraged. I was emotionally exhausted.

3.) You said at the judging that you thought you needed more experience. Why didn't you just "fake it until you make it"? Do you regret saying that?

I'm always going to stay true to myself, whatever I feel like. While in the competition, I did think I needed a little more experience. I was always in the middle of the pack. I was never first or second. And from the critiques from Mr. Jay, I began thinking I need a lot more experience than I thought I did. I do not regret saying that, because I was being honest with myself.

4.) We think you were shafted in the final photo shoot. How'd you feel about having to portray plain Vera Wang?

Everyone else had designers with bigger personalities. Betsey Johnson has energy and you can jump up and have lots of energy with it. Vera Wang is very simple. Even with the male fashion designers - you could put your hands in your pocket, lean forward or something else that makes the photo come to life. I had simple, normal Vera Wang, who just smiles. And I felt like I was portraying her. I didn't quite understand what they wanted me to do. I couldn't jump, because it's not her character. I looked over and Mr. Jay was shaking his head once again and I completely shut down. I didn't know what to do.

5.) How did you feel about Mr. Jay inferring that you sabotaged Chris in the Grammy challenge?

It didn't make any sense to me. Okay, why would I want to sabotage somebody when we're on the same team and they pick a winning team? That's not in my character to sabotage somebody at all. And Chris was my friend in the house, so why would I want to do that? I was wondering, 'do you not like me at all'? And Chris wanted a dress like that. She said she wanted to show off her legs, so I got her something short. I don't know where he was coming from when he said that.

6.) Who are your top three for the win?

I'll say Chris, because her photos are amazing and she has a very energetic personality. When you're a model, you have to be well rounded - you have to have the personality, be able to take good photos, relate to your audience - and she can do all that. And I would say Kayla. She takes good photos. She's rocking the challenges and the judges just love her. No doubt she's going to be top three. I would say Ann, because she keeps getting best photo, but she has a hard time speaking up and connecting with the audience. So, I'll say Chelsey. She sort of has had some modeling experience, so she's doing well in her photos and she knows how to walk. She can become that overall model.
