Conan O'Brien plays daredevil in the new Rolling Stone, hanging off the side of a helicopter for the cover shot.Inside, he talks about how losing "The Tonight Show" made it seem like "I'd just been in a car accident."
O'Brien, whose TBS show "Conan" premieres Nov. 8, gives the events of January one last going-over in the RS story, which hits newsstands on Friday (Oct. 29). As for the car-wreck idea, he says he felt "like a crazy mix of elation, anger, sorrow. Confusion was a big one."
The Internet groundswell, the live tour and the TBS deal came along soon after that, and now he's on the verge of returning to late-night TV. And, potential intellectual property claims from NBC aside, he wants to bring a bunch of his familiar comedy bits with him.
"If there's something we did for a long time that we've established as ours, we'll figure out a way to do it," he says. "I won't be denied my Masturbating Bear!
"What I really want to do is be sued over the bear and then appear in court with the Masturbating Bear. 'Your Honor, this bear can't help himself!'"
