Ana Gasteyer is trying her very best to be scary.
On the set of Chuck last month, she has her hair tied back tightly in a bun and is sporting multiple scars on her face and neck. But the Saturday Night Live alum still has her funny bone intact.
"Theoretically, I've been through a lot. My personal character journal would reflect that there was an incident with a shovel," she jokes about her scars.
Gasteyer, 43, will guest-star on Monday's episode of the spy series as Dasha, a Russian assassin who's after Chuck. Dasha is just the latest in her smorgasbord of roles since leaving SNL in 2002. Gasteyer has performed in several Broadway productions, and appeared on both dramatic series, like The Good Wife, and comedic series, such as when she returned to SNL in May.
"I'm somebody who does a little bit of everything," she says. "I try to cross-pollinate."
Gasteyer says she was drawn to Chuck because the series allowed her to mix comedy and drama.
"It's nice because it kind of gives you permission to be scary and action-oriented, but also not have to completely shut down your comedic side," she says. "[Executive producer] Chris Fedak said, 'I just want you to be terrifying. It's more interesting for me to see you be scary than funny on the show.'"
Fans will have to wait to see Dasha's fate, but Gasteyer is hoping her scary side will lead to another gig.
"Really, I'm just trying to get cast on True Blood," she jokes.
Chuck airs Monday at 8/7c on NBC.
