Kirk Cameron says that the thousands of birds that recently fell out of the sky are not a sign of a looming apocalypse.
The former Growing Pains actor and born-again Christian who starred in a series of "end of days" movies based on the Left Behind books, appeared on Anderson Cooper 360 to discuss a series of strange animal. Thousands of red-winged blackbirds fell out of the sky in Arkansas on New Year's Eve. Then, two million fish died in the Chesapeake Bay and thousands more birds fell dead in Italy.
Anderson Cooper turned to Cameron for an "expert" opinion. "I'm not the religious-conspiracy-theorist go-to guy, particularly, but I think it's really kind of silly to try to equate birds falling out of the sky with some kind of an end-times theory," Cameron said.
He added that theories like this stem from people's obsession with the end of the world. "People love to find codes and signs of future events and see if they can decipher them before anybody else," Cameron continued. "But birds falling from the sky? That has to do more with pagan mythology; the direction that the birds flew told some of the followers of some of those legends that the gods were either pleased or displeased with them."
While Cameron doesn't think the world is near its end, he did share some displeasure about the state of the country. "If America is a ship, it looks a lot like it's sinking — financially, morally, spiritually. It's frightening," he said.
