His TV producer son Jay McGraw and wife Erica are expecting their second child. The two are already parents to daughter Avery Elizabeth, 1.
Erica, who, along with her sisters Nicole and Jaclyn, is known as a "Dahm triplet," and Jay, 31, executive producer of The Doctors, made the announcement officially on television's Dr. Phil show.
"Robin and I are thrilled Jay and Erica are expecting again," Dr Phil tells PEOPLE, "and the due date is my birthday – Sep. 1. Avery has been getting us into tiptop babysitting shape."
At the time the couple announced their first pregnancy while on a family vacation in Italy, Dr. Phil said, "I think Jay and Erica were totally ready and will make the best parents a child could ever want. I plan to be the typical doting grandfather that gets to do all the fun stuff and none of the tough stuff."
The couple, who shared a memorable ultrasound of Avery with a national audience on Jay's show, wed in 2006 at the McGraw family home in Beverly Hills, with Dr. Phil serving as Jay's best man.
