Scott Caan awoke Wednesday (June 29) with this reaction: "Tom Sizemore is coming on?"
Zap2it informed the "Hawaii Five-O" co-star that "Saving Private Ryan" and "Heat" movie veteran Sizemore will recur on CBS' Monday crime-drama reboot in its forthcoming second season as an Internal Affairs investigator ... one likely involved in a probe of Five-0 chief Steve McGarrett (Alex O'Loughlin), framed for murdering Hawaii's governor (Jean Smart) by arch villain Wo Fat (Mark Dacascos), who secretly had the politician in his pocket.
"Lost" Emmy winner Terry O'Quinn also is being added to the "Five-0" cast for year two, and Caan tells Zap2it he thinks the moves are typically "really smart" of executive producer Peter M. Lenkov. "I know he has his ideas about the show, and CBS has its ideas about the show, and neither of them is wrong. Over the years, he's going to figure out a way to switch things up and make this interesting for us as actors.
"I don't think he wants to make just a straight procedural show, but CBS has been successful in doing that. They make billions selling apples; if someone says, 'Well, try this banana,' they might go, 'Well, why? We do so well with apples.' I think Peter is figuring out a way to do both, to make CBS happy and to also expand and bring in different characters."
Indeed, Caan adds, "The more different people they bring in, the happier I am. I hope the show changes and is a little different every year. It's a little more serialized than most cop shows, but the more change, the better for me."
Also reprising his talent-manager role in the final season of HBO's "Entourage" starting Sunday, July 24, the son of fellow actor James Caan admits he still isn't familiar with the original "Hawaii Five-0." However, he knows the long shadow cast by James MacArthur, the late actor who was his forerunner as police detective Danny "Danno" Williams.
"In Hawaii, he's a god," Caan reports. "It's one thing to say, 'Oh, he was a great guy,' but everybody I've met there went on and on about how amazing he was and what he meant to Hawaii. I think he was a really special dude, and it's a bummer that we never got to meet and put him on the show. He will live forever in Hawaii, certainly."
