HOLLYWOOD -- Now that all the big TV season finales are done, those series stars can look forward to a little time off before they have to report back on set again come August.
But that doesn't mean all of them will do so.
As in the past, a number of those workaholic types will be using their hiatus to squeeze in a movie or two before they have to punch the old clock.
Take actor-turned-bestselling author Rob Lowe, for instance.
Instead of a little summer recreation during his months away from Parks and Recreation, Lowe will be starring in Knife Fight, a drama about the darker side of politics.
The film will also feature several fellow primetime fixtures, including How I Met Your Mother's Jennifer Morrison and Modern Family's Julie Bowen, as well as Connie Britton, back in the market following the cancellation of Friday Night Lights.

Also in the cast is Jamie Chung, currently sitting pretty atop the box-office charts, co-starring as Ed Helms' fiancée in The Hangover Part II.
Speaking of that raunchy sequel, Morrison's HIMYM's co-star Alyson Hannigan is reliving the past with her old band camp buddies for American Reunion, as in, American Pie 4, the return of the franchise that can take credit for the whole R-rated comedy craze.
Also on board are Jason Biggs, Seann William Scott, Shannon Elizabeth, Chris Klein, plus Eugene Levy as Jim's dad and, woo-hoo, Jennifer Coolidge as Stifler's mom.
Getting back to Modern Family for a second, Sofia Vergara has a couple of movies on tap for the summer.
First up is the Farrelly Bros.' The Three Stooges, in which she plays one half of a couple (along with Stephen Collins), who adopt Larry, Curly and Moe.
Next for Vergara will be The Paperboy, a steamy thriller helmed by Precious director Lee Daniels, in which she'll be sharing the screen with Zac Efron, Matthew McConaughey and Tobey Maguire.
The paperboy in question is a Miami Times reporter investigating the incarceration of a death row inmate back in his hometown.
With their show not due to return for its 37th (!) season until Sept. 24, the current cast of Saturday Night Live have also been busy sneaking in big screen projects.
While Kristen Wiig, hot off the success of her raunchy Bridesmaids movie, is once again lending her voice to the character of Ruffnut in the family friendly How to Train Your Dragon 2, castmate Bill Hader has been sticking around New York playing Andy Warhol in Men in Black III.
Andy Samberg, meanwhile, is pulling double duty, co-starring in Celeste and Jesse Forever, a dramedy about a divorcing couple attempting to remain friends while dating new people.
Parks and Recreation's Rashida Jones plays Celeste to Samberg's Jesse, while Emma Roberts and Elijah Wood round out the cast.
Think of that one as Samberg's destined-for-Sundance project, as opposed to his other summer assignment, which would never be mistaken for artsy-fartsy fare.
That would be I Hate You, Dad, in which Adam Sandler plays a pending bridegroom whose unpleasant father (James Caan) moves in with him just before the wedding.
Rounding out the colourful cast is Gossip Girl Leighton Meester and blasts from the past, Vanilla Ice and Ian Ziering.
Did we mention Samberg's playing Sandler's son?
Sounds fun.
